RDF (Refuse-derived fuel) is obtained from municipal solid waste, after a sorting and treatment process. These installations use municipal solid waste such as plastic, paper, cardboard, textiles, biomass (wood) and other materials, which are processed and transformed into a fuel with low moisture content and high calorific value. RDF or biomass can be harnessed as energy sources, being burned in a boiler-furnace unit in order to produce steam, which can be used in an internal installations or used to produce electricity using a steam turbine.
